A Swiss 'Holbein' Dagger In Late 16th Century Style
19th Century

With double-edged blade of flat diamond section etched along both sides with the figures of Adam and Eve each on a pedestal by a tree, Adam holding an apple, the pedestal with a sign bearing the conjoined monogram 'CV', Eve with two putti at her feet, the sign dated 'MDXXI', the hilt of characteristic form with brass mounts and button finial, and two-piece ivory grip of swelling flattened diamond section, in its brass scabbard lined in brown pigskin-covered wood, the front cast and pierced with the Dance of Death, the terminal cast as a female head between nautilus shells, the extra pieces with etched decoration and brass hilts each decorated with a cast lion-mask in relief
