Footnotes
Very similar hilts are in the Marishal Museum, University of Aberdeen and appear to have been used by the British Cavalry and are of the type particularly associated with the Royal Regiment of Horse Guards. For a sword with an almost identical basket, formerly in the Anthony Darling Collection, see Cyril Mazansky, British Basket-Hilted Swords, 2005, p. 127, F21 (illustrated)
