A Scottish Basket-Hilted Backsword
Second Quarter Of The 18th Century

With tapering fullered blade double-edged at the point and with a narrow fuller along the back for most of its length on each side, iron guard of line engraved bars of rectangular section framing two quatrefoil-shaped panels each pierced with four hearts and five circles, the fretted incised front and side-plates pierced en suite, fore-guards, scrolled wrist-guard, conical pommel with button, and later leather-covered grip bound with twisted copper wire (pitted overall)
