A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword In Late 18th Century Style
The Blade Probably 19th Century

With tapering double-edged blade etched with symmetrical designs of foliage within the central double fuller over most of its length on each side, the ricasso etched with the initials 'G.G.' on one side, iron guard of slender flat bars of rectangular section framing fretted incised panels pierced with stylised hearts and circles, the two main panels centred on saltires and pierced en suite, the side panels each with 'ram's horn' terminal, fore-guards, scrolled wrist-guard, bun-shaped pommel incised with line decoration, and grip with wrapped binding (some rust patination)
