Although small, this painting is full of force as the two locomotives stand ready for departure, a Prairie tank in the foreground, a Mogul behind.
Many of Cuneo's most powerful paintings depict storm or night scenes and the vertical elements
Of water pipes and lamp posts frame the engines tightly as if confining them momentarily before they leap into action (Narisa Chakra, Terence Cuneo: Railway Painter of the Century)
