24-jewel Cal.CH27-70Q chronograph movement adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, Gyromax balance, Geneva stamp of quality, silvered dial applied gold faceted baton numerals, subsidiary dials for 30 minute register incorporating 24 hour indication, 12 hour register with leap year index, date ring with aperture for moon phases, day and month in two apertures below 12, gold baton hour and minute hands, blued steel chronograph hand, screw back case with concave bezel and downturned lugs, fitted leather strap with 18ct gold Patek Philippe buckle, together with fitted presentation box, outer card, leather wallet and Certificate of Origin, case, dial and movement signed 35mm.

The Reference 3970 was launched in 1986, the first generation examples were fitted with snap on case backs. In 1988 the model was modified to a water-resistant version with screw back. In 2004, reference 3970 was replaced by reference 5970.
