A late 17th century German gilt brass hexagonal double six hour striking horizontal table clock,
Jeremias Pfaff (signed 'Paff'), Augsburg, Circa 1690
The case with engraved mouldings and floral boarder, glazed panels to each side over the concave moulded base raised on three turned feet bordering two 'pork pie' bells. The 3.25 inch silvered Roman dial with a single steel hand and floral engraved alarm setting dial to the centre with a finely executed brass setting hand. The four train movement with chain fusee going train and spring barrels for the strike, quarter and alarm trains. The original balance wheel escapement replaced by an early spring balance with micrometer regulation, the hexagonal plates united by turned pillars, the signed backplate with two numbered countwheels, numbered 1-4 and four times 6-1 respectively, the hammer heads and back cocks finely pierced and engraved with foliage. Signed 'Jeremias Paff [sic], Aug to the backplate 11cm high, 15cm wide
