Miniature Furniture: A George II mahogany and chequerbanded bureau bookcase

With oak sides, the chequered lines inlaid in walnut, bog oak and fruitwood, the moulded cornice above a pair of mirrored panel doors enclosing a shelf, above a fall enclosing a later rectangular green velvet writing surface and fitted interior, comprising a collection of four pigeon holes and three small drawers, above three graduated drawers on bracket feet, 25.5cm wide, 14.5cm deep, 44cm high (10in wide, 5.5in deep, 17in high).

Edward Frederic Benson (24 July 1867-29 February 1940) was an English author. Born at Wellington College in Berkshire, educated at Marlborough College, Benson was a prolific writer, publishing his first book while still a student. He is principally known for his Mapp and Lucia series about Emmeline "Lucia" Lucas and Elizabeth Mapp, which was adapted for television and radio.
