A Greek red-figure lebes gamikos
Paestum, attributed to the Asteas-Python workshop, circa 350-325 B.C.
Composed of three separate parts, side (a) decorated with a boy and a draped female figure seated on a stool, her left hand outstretched and holding a dove eating from a phiale, a necklace hanging below, facing winged Eros depicted nude, holding a mirror with a cloak over his left arm, his right arm outstretched with a column of white spheres, side (b) with a seated Eros holding another column of white spheres, the lid decorated with scrolling and strokes, attached to the base of a lekanis, the lid decorated with scrolling and strokes, surmounted with a miniature black glazed lebes decorated on one side with a swan, the other with a profile head, the lid missing, 14¼in (36.2cm) high
