Apulia, circa 320-310 B.C.
Depicting a winged Eros seated on rocks holding a casket in his right hand with two sashes below, the shoulder with a profile head of winged Nike, a draped winged Nike flying at the mouth, large palmettes on the reverse, 17½in (44.5cm) high

Published:
A.D. Trendall and Alexander Cambitoglou, Second Supplement to the Red-Figure Vases of Apulia, Part II, London, 1992, p318, no.579. This vessel is of a very rare form and has been attributed by A.D. Trendall to a painter associated with the Painter of the Macinagrossa Stand and the Samarcande Group.
