A Celtic limestone head
Circa 2nd-3rd Century A.D.
Of ovoid form, with hollowed almond shaped eyes, the small down-turned mouth set within a large circular recess, the ears perforated, with a recessed hole at the back of the head, possibly for attachment, 6¾in (17cm) high

Provenance:
UK private collection. Acquired at auction in Cirencester in the late 1970s to early 1980s. Previously owned by a dry-stone waller who found the head while walling within a five mile radius of Cirencester. Accompanied by a copy of the owner's research notes.
