Effectively combining linear and painterly values, as well as lyrical and expressionistic elements, such as the textured surfaces and dripping technique of J. Pollock's action painting, this abstract composition of intersecting circular shapes and successive rectangular forms against a shimmering white background conveys a sense of spirituality and poetic feel, linking the painter with the magnificent Byzantine monuments of his native Macedonia in northern Greece. As noted by I. Manoledaki-Lazaridi who prepared the artist's monograph in 1978, "in Conjecture, the lyrical elements of his art are contained in strictly defined circular and rectangular shapes, while his whole body of work under the general title 'Optical Dialogues' grew out of the artist's efforts to reconcile diverse pictorial elements whose apparent contradiction would lead to a new visual harmony."1
