A Meissen octagonal plate from the 'Christie-Miller' service, circa 1740-45
Painted in the centre with a scene of an elegant couple by a harbour side, ships in the background and a palace on the opposite bank, within a gilt trellis border reserved with four quatrelobe panels with puce landscape vignettes, the rim with a border of gilt foliate scrollwork reserved with four polychrome quatrelobe landscape panels, 22.7cm across, crossed sword mark in underglaze-blue, impressed 22

Two other octagonal plates of the service are in the Dr. Ernst Schneider Collection in the Lustheim Palace (Schommers / Grigat-Hunger 2004, nos. 103-104); another plate is in the Carabelli Collection (Pietsch 2000, no. 118); an octagonal bowl and an oval dish, the latter a gift of Horst Hoffmeister, are in the Museum for Decorative Arts in Hamburg (Lessmann 2006, p. 38). Another plate of the same size from the Hoffmeister Collection was sold in these Rooms 24 Nov 2010, lot 52.
