Two extremely rare Meissen cutlery handles from the 'Christie-Miller' service, circa 1740-45

Of pistol shape, painted on each side with vignettes of figures in front of Venetian palaces and harbours within quatrefoil cartouches, and smaller puce camaieu panels with similar subjects reserved against brown-edged gilt scrollwork, mounted with 18th century silver gilt handle mounts and steel blades, the handles 8cm long (2)

Footnotes

Literature:
Ulrich Pietsch, Passion for Meissen (2010), no. 90

Although not in the possession of the Christie-Miller family when the bulk of the service was sold in 1970, the decoration on these cutlery handles conforms exactly to that of the service.
