A Worlde of Wordes, or, Most copious, and exact dictionarie in Italian and English. London: printed by Arnold Hatfield for Edward Blount, 1598.
Small folio (233 x 163 mm). a6(-a1) b4 A-2P6 2Q4(-2Q4). Woodcut vignette on title, text in three columns. 19th-century speckled calf, rebacked, morocco spine label. Lacking first and last blanks, old faint dampstain throughout.
Provenance: Public Library of Cincinnati (discard stamp to verso of title).

FIRST EDITION of the first comprehensive Italian-English dictionary, an important work in exposing Elizabethan England to contemporary Italian language and culture. Florio shared a patron with Shakespeare in the Earl of Southampton, and Florio's works—including the present volume and his translation of the essays of Montaigne—are thought to have influenced the Bard's writings.
