The Slang of Venery and Its Analogues. WITH: Synonyms of the Slang of Venery. Chicago: Privately Printed, 1916. 3 volumes. Folio. Original half calf. Rubbing and a little insect-wear to covers, hinges cracked in a couple of places.

MIMEOGRAPHED FROM A TYPESCRIPT FAIR COPY, with a few manuscript corrections. Compilation of historical indecent language. In the synonyms volume, for example, there are 12-pages of entries, in several languages, under the heading "MAN ... in his lawful or unlawful relations to woman." Cary's sources included Ash, Bailey, Bartlett, Cotgrave, d'Urfey, Florio, Grose, Halliwell, Johnson, Mayhew, and others.
