[72], 1495, [1 blank], [56 index] pp. Hebrew and roman types. Reads from right to left. Printer's device on title. 19th century half calf. Minor soiling and edge-chipping to title, occasional minor soiling/toning, rebacked, binding rubbed.
Provenance: ownership inscriptions dated 1594 and 1625 to title, 17th century marginalia, two modern ownership signatures on r.f.e.; anonymous owner, Christie's Amsterdam, Dec 19, 1990, lot 412.

FIRST EDITION of Pagnini's translation and commentary on David ben Joseph Kimcḥi's Sefer ha-shorashim (see lot 1088). "Pagnini, whose initial formation began under the tutelage of Girolamo Savonarola in Florence, is an emblematic figure of Renaissance Christian Hebraism in Italy. His commentaries, grammars and translations were hailed by Christians and Jews alike, and his erudition" ("The Meaning of Words: Marcus Jastrow and the Making of Rabbinic Dictionaries," Penn Libraries, online exhibition).
