Mega kai pany ophelimon lexikon [In Greek]. Magnum ac perutile dictionarium. Rome: Zacharias Callierges Cretensis, [1523].
Folio (330 x 220 mm). [alpha]10 [beta]-[zeta]8 [eta]10 [theta]6 [iota]-[mu]8 [nu]6 [xi]10 [omicron]-3[upsilon]8. Woodcut printer's 2-headed eagle device on title, [alpha]2 printed in red and black. Early calf. First gathering with waterstain at fore-edge (less pronounced on title), title with crossed-out ownership inscription at head and soiling near lower fore-corner, burn-holes or scorch-marks to upper margin of final gathering, recornered and rebacked preserving original spine.
Provenance: bookseller's pencil notes to front free endpaper referring to the Sedgwick copy subsequently sold by Thomas Thorpe in 1836 (this copy?); Mark Pattison [1813-1884], Rector of Lincoln College, Oxford (reversed blindstamp on front pastedown); probably sold at his sale, Sotheby's, July 26-August 5, 1885; "MBJ" (pencil initials on front pastedown dated 1946).

EDITIO PRINCEPS, issued by the Cretan emigrant Callierges, whose first publication had been the Etymologicum magnum published in Venice in 1499 (see lot 1034).
