MELBER, JOHANNES & JODOCHUS EICHMANN.

Vocabularius praedicantium, sive Variloquus. [Strasbourg: Georg Husner, c.1500]. 4to (200 x 135 mm). 172 leaves: a-e8f4g-h8i4k8l4m-o8p4q-t8v4x-z8[et]8. Early roman type, initial spaces with guide letters. Latin and German text. 16th-century pigskin-backed wooden boards. Some dampstaining mostly confined to margins, lower corner of a few leaves chipped, early ink annoation to title, binding lacking catch and one clasp.
Provenance: S.A. (near-period initials to front pastedown endpaper).

Melber's popular German-Latin dictionary, compiled with the help of Eichmann, was first printed in Speyer in c.1477. The present edition is a page for page reprint of an undated edition also thought to be by Husner (BMC I 146). The binding is nearly identical to that of the British Library copy of the present edition, attributed to Weihenstephan Benediktinerkloster. BMC I 163; Goff M-472; Hain-Copinger 11036*.
