MARCHESINUS, JOANNES. Late 13th/early 14th c.

Mammotrectus super Bibliam. Venice: Franciscus Renner de Heilbronn & Nicolaus de Frankfordia, 1476.
4to (210 x 155 mm). 227 leaves (of 228, lacking initial blank): A8(-A1) B-C8 a10 b-y8 i8 z8 &10. Double column, gothic type. Period beveled wood boards, rebacked in calf. Title fingersoiled, final 7 gatherings with wormhole in text, 2 or 3 wormholes in margins, a little toning and dampstaining at very extremities of margins, binding worn.
Provenance: early ownership inscriptions on a1 and a2 inked out; Biblioteca Rossi (partially removed typographic bookplate); Municipio de Treviso (inkstamp on first leaf); Walter Goldwater (bookplate).

A manual for the clergy, containing etymological and grammatical explanations of difficult words in the Bible and the liturgical hours, arranged in the order of the Bible and the church year. The Mammotrectus was first printed in Mainz in 1470. BMC V 194; Goff M236; HC(+Add)R 10557.
