FAKHR-AD-DIN HASAN JAMAL-AD-DIN HUSAIN INJU. ?-c.1630.

Persian manuscript on paper, Farhang Jahangiri. [India, late 18th or 19th century.]
550 leaves recto and verso, tall 8vo, 21 lines of black nasta'liq script with principal words in red. 19th century half morocco and marbled boards. Incomplete at end, scattered repairs, a marginal dampstain, leaves at end re-margined, spine and corners dry.
Provenance: Edward Thomas, B.C.S. (two ownership inscription dated from Benares, 1853); Battle Abbey (armorial bookplate).

Persian lexicon with many poetic citations. The preface contains an alphabetical list of forty four dictionaries or glossaries consulted for the present work The author belonged to a Sayyid family of Shiraz who left Iran for India. He worked in the court of the Emperor Akbar and was sent to the Deccan in A.H. 1013 (1604/1605 C.E.) to negotiate the marriage of Prince Daniyal to the daughter of 'Adil Shah. This work was completed a few years after that. A lithographed edition was published in Lucknow in 1879.
