LEAVES—INHABITED INITIAL.

Latin and German manuscript on paper, from Vocabularius ex quo. [Germany, mid-15th century.] 2 leaves, recto and verso, 36 lines in German cursive gothic script, brown ink, approx 83 x 120 mm each, capital strokes in red, large (68 x 72 mm) intial "T" in red and green with yellow penwork, incorporating a female bust with outstretched arms and a human-headed grotesque. Leaves neatly inlaid into blue paper and bound in an oversize linen folder. Small repair to an oxidation hole in the large initial (in the background near grotesque).

Entries are for the letters "S" and "T" of this important German-Latin dictionary. The first edition appeared in 1467; see lot 1042 for another incunable edition.
