Footnotes
King Buck, a black Labrador retriever, by Timothy of Arden and out of Alta of Banchory, was whelped in 1948 and died in 1962. He ran in and won many field trials and was the 1952 and 1954 National Retriever Champion. A watercolor of the dog soft-mouthing a mallard painted by Maynard Reece was reproduced as a signed, hand-pulled stone lithograph and the 1959 Federal Duck Stamp, the only time that the stamp depicted a subject other than waterfowl.
