A very similar example, lacquered with a dragon, was in the W. L. Behrens collection, no.540, illustrated in the Catalogue, pl.XXX.
The Johana technique was developed in the town of Johana in Toyama prefecture and is a variation of togidashi and has the finished appearance of fine cloisonnè enamel.
