The roiro ground shading to usu-nashiji, lacquered with a crested hiyodori (brown-eared bulbul) perched on a nanten shrub, in gold and silver takamakie, the interior of red lacquer with matt gold risers, signed Koma Yasutada saku; with glass bead ojime, unsigned. 7.9cm (3 1/8in), wide.

The design is by Kano Tan'yu and is illustrated in the woodblock printed book, Gazu Hyakkacho, vol.2, published in 1729. It is the illustration number 34, Hiyodori (Brown-eared bulbul), perched in a Nanten tree (Nandina domestica).
