By Koma Kansai, after a design by Ogata Korin, 19th century
Of upright form, bearing a shibuichi-nuri ground, lacquered and metal-inlaid with a bee flying over a berried plant in gold takamakie with details of kirikane, the berries of coral and the bee inlaid with gold, the interior of nashiji, signed Korin no hitsu, Kansai utsusu; with a similarly lacquered netsuke of a kemari (football), with maple leaf, cherry blossom and pine needles in takamakie, signed Kansai. 9.2cm (3 5/8in).
