Footnotes

Not only did Jamini Roy draw upon his native folk art of Kalighat Patas for inspiration, he was also influenced by Egyptian murals and Byzantine mosaics as evident in the present lot. However, his choice of palette here is more aligned to the simple two-tone, mud and lime, colors from the villages.
