Worship of Brahma
Mandi or Bilaspur, Circa 1820
Opaque watercolor and gold on paper; the central figure of Brahma, with four heads, four faces, and four arms. (with each head, he continually recites one of the four Vedas). He is surrounded by three groups of princesses, princes and lay people. A single princess, alone in the upper left quadrant faces his frontal body. Outside the complex ta large male and female worshiper make offerings and pay homage in the lower section, and in the upper ten figures paying homage are enclosed in white ovals.
