Five illustrations to the Rasikapriya
Mandi, late 18th century
Opaque watercolor and gold on paper;
a) A lady seated on a carpet in a pavilion; approaching her is a companion, in an upper compartment to the left, a nobleman is seated in discourse with Maharaja Surma Sen.
b) A ruler, probably Maharaja Surma Sen sits against a bolster on a carpet; before him is seated a nobleman, a morchal bearer and attendant with staff stand in the background.
c) Four scenes of ladies in four compartments, two standing on striped carpets, all wearing different colored saris.
d) Krishna seated on a floral carpet within an oval; outside Radha shyly approaches Krishna; a small compartment above depicts the head of a lady on a balcony.
e) Radha leaving Krishna on the hillside, a male musician sits nearby playing the tabla; above, a lady is seated with her companion on a striped carpet. Image: 8 1/2 x 6 in. (21.6 x 15.4 cm.); Folio: 10 1/2 x 7 1/2 in. (26 x 18.5 cm)
