An illustration to the 'Impey' Ramayana: Kevat washes Rama's feet before they cross the Ganges
Murshidabad, circa 1770
Opaque watercolor and gold on paper; in the upper section Rama and Sita kneel before an ascetic with Lakshmana standing behind them. Below are a group of black-skinned boatmen with their families paying respects while Kevat washes Rama's feet. The red boat with a figurehead of a tiger is moored in the river Ganges.
