Late Mughal, circa 1760-70
Opaque watercolor and gold on paper; wrapped in a sumptuous gold-embroidered purple cloak that is secured on her head by a gold and red-banded cylindrical cap. Her aura of innocence is accented by her finger raised to her chin while her right hand splits open her cloak clutching a fly whisk. Image: 4 x 6 1/2 (10.2 x 16.5 cm.) in.; Folio: 11 3/4 x 8 3/8 in. Inscribed in nastaliq in the upper border tara pishkam 'star of the court'.
The reverse is painted with various stylized flowers with small birds below on a mauve ground, and is Inscribed above darakht-i-gul pacheranka.
