The Chovisi of Rishabhanatha
Gujarat, 16th/17th century
Mineral pigment on cloth; Rishabhanatha is seated on a thin jeweled platform with diminutive bull at the center. Flanked by two attendants he is set within a temple complex filled with smaller lay celestial figures. The remaining field is organized rows of temple niches containing the twenty-three following jinas, including the two smaller in the top center niches. Folio: 20 1/2 x 20 1/2 in. (52 x 52 cm.)
