A pair copper alloy Garuda palanquin finials
Cambodia, Khmer, 12th/13th century
Each finely cast as the zoomorphic bird-headed winged deity wearing a tiered headdress surmounted with a smaller Garuda head, with an elaborate necklace atop a puffed breast defined by layers of tight S-form feathers; the lower hollowed upward-curving portion of each finial incised overall with a pattern of overlapping scales; with traces of gilt, the surfaces with a mottled green and blue patina. 8 1/2in (21.5cm) high
