A tiger meditation rug
Tibet, late 19th/early 20th century
Wool with wool foundation; woven in the form of a realistic orange and and black pelt of a tiger, with a central column of paired stripes creating elliptical motifs opposed by inverted forms at each side. His head is drawn with bulging eyes and exposed fangs and the whole flanked by flowers and multicolored bands at the top and bottom. 65 x 42 in. (165.1 x 106.7 cm.)
