Tibet, 16th/17 century
The Yidam with blue hair arranged in a tall chignon inset with a crescent moon, skull and surmounted by a cintamani, steps vigorously in pratyalidhasana, his crossed hands holding a vajra and ghanta as he embraces his consort Vajravarahi, a five-skull crown on her head and jeweled pendants hanging from her waist, brandishing a karttrika in her right hand and a skull in her left as she wraps her arms around his neck; the amorous couple each adorned with sumptuous beaded jewelry and garlands of human heads, their serene faces highlighted in cold gilt.
