A copper alloy portrait of an unidentified lama
Tibet, 16th century
With traces of cold gilding; seated on a double cushion platform covered by a deer skin, the lama is dressed in well-defined monks robes. His right hand is held in the act of teaching (vitarka mudra) and his face cast with a stern expression, with his hair is braided to a tapering point at the back. 4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm) high
