A gilt copper alloy figure of Tsong Khapa
Tibet, 15th century
with silver and copper inlay; inscribed around the base:
Homage to the king of Dharma, Lobsang Dakpa. Built to fulfill the wish of Khetsun Dogyal tsen, made in honor of Choskyi Rgyalpo. May all be auspicious
Wearing a pandita hat and and patchwork robes, he holds his hands in the teaching pose (vitarka mudra) while holding the stems of two lotus flowers blossoming at both ears supporting on the right a wisdom sword and at the left a book. He is seated on lotus platform with a floral- incised frieze and inscription around the base. 9 1/4 in. (23.5 cm) high
