A gilt copper repousse Ganesha
Nepal, 19th century
The four-armed son of Shiva dances on the back of two rats. He holds the tusk and bowl of sweets in hos lower hands, and a mala and axe in the upper hands, his short trunk searches for the sweets. He wears an elaborate crown and is adorned with armbands, necklaces, large earrings, and a snake tied at his belly. His dhoti end falls in rippling pleats between his legs and various scarfs fan out to the sides against a beaded and flamed-edge prabhamandala. 16 in. (40.6 cm.) high
