A gilt copper alloy figure of Padmapani
Spiti region, North India, 11th century
Standing frontally on a small oval disc, his right hand in varada mudra and, in his left hand, a padma stem that blossoms at his left shoulder. Atop his matted coiffure, his three-leaf crown contains the seated figure of Amitabha Buddha. He is further adorned by various necklaces, a sacred cord, and an antelope skin tied over his left shoulder. His folded dhoti hangs down between his legs and he is framed by a curving sash that falls below his knees.
