A copper alloy and iron bichwa dagger
Tamil Nadu, Vijayanagara, 13-15th century
The curved iron blade set on a bronze D-shaped guard cast with a central deity, possibly Vishnu, holding a staff or mace and a spear above a protective animal vehicle below his feet. Shiva and Parvati, protected by a naga hood, are seated on Nandi, with another image of Nandi above. 11 1/2 in. (29.2 cm.) long
