Footnotes
The exact function of this finial is unclear, however, the choice of wood, style of carving and iconography portrayed suggest that this was produced in Mysore in the early 20th century. Compare with the legs o a table in the Victoria and Albert Museum, see Jaffer, Furniture from British India and Ceylon, 2001, no. 16, p. 154.
