Himachel Pradesh, Kulu Valley, circa 14th century
Standing on the back of the prone decapitated buffalo, Durga delivers the death blow with her trident to the emerging demon Mardini, while her lion vehicle bites the tail of the buffalo. The figures are enshrined by an complex prabhamandala of angular beams and surmounted by a large roundel.
