A buff sandstone figure of Brahma
Central India 10th/11th century
Standing in a hieratic frontal pose, the slightly pot-bellied god wearing a diaphanous dhoti falling in a narrow pleat and his upper thighs bound by a thick scarf knotted in front. His torso is bare and adorned by a large jeweled necklace, meditation cord and a thick braided flower mala that falls from his arms down to his chins. His three faced head has a serene expression with a beard and a shared matted locks. A fragmentary figure bows by his right foot and his vehicle, the goose, stands by his left foot. 31 in. (78.7 cm.) high
