1971 Checker Marathon Station Wagon
Chassis no. A12W364631379A

Checker Motors Corporation was a Kalamazoo, Michigan based vehicle manufacturer and tier-one subcontractor that manufactured taxicabs used by Checker Taxi. Checker Motors Corporation was established by Morris Markin in1922 through a merger of ‘Commonwealth Motors’ and ‘Markin Automobile Body’. Although this car was commonly used as a taxi, it was available to the general public for personal use.

Checker made the iconic American taxi cab which was valued by taxicab companies for its durability in heavy use. Special features included large rear seats and trunks. The company had trouble competing with fleet discounts offered by the larger manufacturers as well as economies of scale in procuring components. Checks final model year was 1982. Throughout their long production run, the style barely changed, and it was quite difficult to tell their first year from their last year. These cars were known for their rugged construction. The taxi industry was very saddened by Checkers demise.

This particular Checker was never used as a taxi cab. The car was purchased for personal use for $5,026 and it is believed that it spent most of its life in Texas and Florida. It has the General Motors 327 cubic inch motor with a turbo 400 automatic transmission. Some of the options include power steering, traction lock rear axle, air conditioning, tinted glass, bumber guards, luggage carrier, radio, daylight mirror and full wheel covers. Taxi yellow with brown vinyl interior, this car also has full magnetic taxi decals for extra fun! Runs and drives great, large enough to fit six passengers. An entertaining and diverse classic car, guaranteed to bring lots of looks and smiles to all who look!
