TENNYSON (ALFRED)

The Lover's Tale and Other Early Poems, manuscript copy, 20 pages (several blank) on blue paper, in a neat hand (perhaps that of Richard Herne Shepherd), bound with similar material including an 8-page transcript of the case 'Tennyson v Hotten', 1862, and 'Prolusiones Academicae', 1828, containing Frederick Tennyon's 'Carmen Graecum', the list of contents showing two versions of Tennyson's Timbuctoo have been removed, contemporary vellum, 8vo, 1862-1870

Footnotes

Describes an important episode in Tennyson's fight with pirates. The standard account by W.D. Paden, Tennyson's The Lover's Tale, R.H. Shepherd and T.J. Wise (Studies in Bibliography, 18, 1965) does not mention this 1862 law suit; nor does it show up in Tennyson's Letters, or Lady Tennyson's diary.
