SHELLEY (PERCY BYSSHE)

Notes on Sculptures in Rome and Florence, FIRST EDITION, NUMBER 2 OF 25 COPIES on Whatman, a Forman family copy, item 587 from Elkin Mathews Catalogue 102, 1946 (this was Maurice Buxton Forman selling up before moving permanently to South Africa), original boards, uncut, 8vo, For Private Distribution, 1879

Footnotes

Preprint from volume 7 of H.B. Forman's Works of Shelley, 1880. Forman was probably using a transcript by Claire Claremont, or possibly as Fairfax Murray believed, a notebook of hers "on works of art in Florence supposed to be inspired by Shelley". The original manuscript has disappeared and Forman's ambiguous references to his source are detailed by E.B. Murray (Keats-Shelley Journal, 1983).
