PALGRAVE (WILLIAM GIFFORD)

Hermann Agha: an Eastern Narrative, 2 vol., first edition, with a 6-page autograph letter signed by the author bound in, black half morocco by Magnier Frères with their pallet on front free endpaper, t.e.g., 8vo, H.S. King, 1872

Footnotes

The letter to Buxton Forman, written from the British Legation, Montevideo, 1885, gives much biographical detail, then continues "As to the poem it is, I think, too far from its conclusion to talk about yet. The total number of Cantos is 81... I published some account of a little trip I made up to Paraguay; the only existing S. American state with anything like a historical interest about it.." Item 538 in the Elkin Mathews Forman catalogue, 1946, was a presentation copy of this book.
