MORRIS (WILLIAM)

The God of the Poor, 2 copies, one in red wrappers, the other in yellow wrappers, manuscript note by Forman, in a cloth case [Enquiry 2, pp.204-5, citing this copy], 8vo, Office of "Justice", 1868 [Twentieth Century Press, c.1896]

Footnotes

The publisher's file copies. Forman's note reaches an extraordinary level of moral ambiguity by claiming that the unique yellow wrapper was a result of a mistake in the printing office: "One seems to be a spectator at some abstruse private charade " (Two Forgers, p.134). See illustration overleaf.
