Cyril Edward Power (British, 1872-1951)

Linocut printed in venetian red and viridian, c.1930, on buff oriental laid tissue, signed, titled and numbered 11/50 in pencil, with margins, 174 x 350mm (6 7/8 x 13 6/8in)(B)

Footnotes

"Power would often go and watch the Amateur Athletic Association championships at the White City Stadium... Another version of this print entitled 'The Relay Race', possibly a unique impression, was printed a second time in reverse and in different colours... TP no.4 is printed in orange from the 1st block and blue from the 2nd, which were the colours originally intended for the edition, according to Power's work notes for the print."

Stephen Coppel, "Linocuts of the Machine Age", Scholar Press, London, 1995, p95
