A Peter Ellenshaw concept painting for The Light in the Forest
Disney, 1958. Oil on canvas, signed and dated "Peter Ellenshaw 1958." Ellenshaw, the renowned matte designer and special effects creator, worked on Quo Vadis (1951), Mary Poppins (1964), and The Black Hole (1979), among many other films. He was a matte artist on The Light in the Forest and gave this painting to Stanley Johnson, the film's editor, as a memento. It has descended through Johnson's family to the present owner.
